Fis rules

Fis rules

Fis rules
  1. A skier must behave in such a way that he does not endanger or prejudice others.

  2. A skier must move in control. He must adapt his speed and manner of skiing to his personal ability and to the prevailing conditions of terrain, snow and weather, as well as to the density of traffic.

  3. A skier coming from behind must choose his route in such a way that he does not endanger skiers ahead.

  4. A skier may overtake a skier above or below and to the right or to the left provided that he leaves enough space for the overtaken skier to make any voluntary or involuntary movement.

  5. A skier entering a marked run, starting again after stopping or moving upwards on the slopes must look up and down the slopes so that he can do so without endangering himself or others.

  6. Unless absolutely necessary, a skier must avoid stopping on the piste in narrow places or where visibility is restricted. After a fall in such a place, a skier must move clear of the piste as soon as possible.

  7. A skier either climbing or descending on foot must keep to the side of the piste.

  8. A skier must respect all signs and markings.

  9. At accidents, every skier is duty bound to assist.

  10. Every skier and witness, whether a responsible party or not, must exchange names and addresses following an accident.

Additional rules for snowboarders

1. GENERAL RULES

The 10 FIS Rules apply to the snowboarders as well.

2. CHANGE OF DIRECTION

Due to their limited visibility on sides (viewing angle), the snowboarders must always check the space on the left or the right side of the track before changing the direction.

3. BOARD PROTECTION

The front foot must be secured to the board with a safety strap. Only in such a manner can we prevent the losing of the board in the case of falling or due to any other reason, otherwise the board could slip down the slope and threaten the safety of other ski slope users.

4. SPECIAL FOOTWEAR

Various bindings are all adapted to the snowboard boots. The boots for Alpine skiing are too stiff and do not enable sideways leaning, which is necessary in snowboarding.

5. CABLE DEVICES

The drag lifts can be used only by those snowboarders, who have already gained the volume of experiences needed for handling a drag lift independently. During the ride on a drag lift, the back foot must not be strapped to the board.

6. PROHIBITION OF SNOWBOARDING

Snowboarding is not allowed on all those places where skiing is also not allowed.
